After serving as the interim coordinator of the Lake City Senior Center since October 2022, Rochella Jackson has been named the center’s permanent coordinator.
Jackson’s philosophy for running the center is keeping its members of the senior center happy and encouraged. Jackson also refers to the members of the senior center as “seasoned folks” instead of senior citizens.
“We want our members to remained focused active, and involved,” said Jackson. “Our members are still young at heart, so we want to help them remember that and provide activities that will keep them involved.”
Some of the senior center’s events Jackson has helped produced included a St. Patrick’s Day party, a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels, and a Black History skit.
“The Black History skit was created by one of our clients at the center,” said Jackson. “I went to see the performance at her church and asked her to host a production for our members at the center and it was a success.”
Membership at the Lake City Senior Center has increased during Jackson’s tenure as interim director, and she hopes to continue growing both membership and programming.
