The new construction does not replace the current facilities which are close to the Blanding Street entrance. Instead, the additional building will serve patrons attending games on the back two baseball diamonds and the football field currently under construction. A tree line and three ball fields separates the area from the existing facilities.
“The Blanding Street Park continues to expand, and the current facilities are a long distance from our new fields,” said Cynthia Mallette, director of the Lake City Recreation and Tourism Department. “Having these additional facilities will provide better access for our children and families at games.”
You can help the city get funding for the new concession and restrooms by sending a letter of support to Mayor Yamekia Robinson by Friday, Dec. 15. A sample letter is available on the city’s website, LakeCitySC.gov, and Facebook page. Download the letter, add your name and address and email it to hstith@cityoflakecity.org.
