Leading Lake City's preservation efforts, the historical society serves as a resource for people researching South Carolina history and genealogy.
Lynches Lake Historical Society (LLHS)
The Lynches Lake Historical Society (LLHS) is a non-profit organization located in Lake City, South Carolina. We collect and preserve historical artifacts and documents related to the people of northeastern South Carolina, as well as education resources on our history to schools and interested organizations and individuals.
Named for the group of lakes that stretch through this part of South Carolina, the Lynches Lake Historical Society aims to capture and preserve the history of the people who settled in this region beginning in the 1700s. While genealogy is our primary focus, we work with organizations such as the The Bean Market to educate and display the industry, enterprise and accomplishments of our ancestors.
Membership & Funding
Housed in downtown Lake City in the Whitehead Infirmary, a building built in 1938 by Dr. J.D. Whitehead, the LLHS has more than 100 members and is supported through membership fees, grants and donations from individuals and groups.
